About Brian Lynch

1957: born in Sherburne, NY

1979: BA from The State University at Brockport, NY

1984: MFA from The University of Iowa

Brian received a B.A. in painting from the State University of New York at Brockport.  During his junior year, he apprenticed with Alex Katz in NYC.  This experience proved to be a big influence on his work – from this point to the present, his work has focused on observation and the development of a distinct representational idiom.

After graduating from Brockport State, he moved to Chicago to study printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and work as an assistant to the curator of prints and drawings where he was able to study masterworks on paper first hand.  These experiences encouraged his interest in drawing and printmaking.

From 1981 through 1984, Brian studied printmaking and drawing under Mauricio Lasansky at Iowa. After receiving an MFA with Honors, he moved back to Chicago.  He taught painting and art education at Governors State University in Park Forest Illinois.

In 1989, Brian Lynch moved to New York City where he resides today.  He has participated in many exhibitions and has received awards from the Philadelphia Print Center and Society of American Graphic Artists in NYC.

In 2007, Lynch moved his studio to Saugerties, NY and works as a scenic artist on television and film productions. His work can be seen in a 50-feet collage at the Saugerties Public library on the lower level depicting images of everyday life.
